Lions Cuddle Quilts

Here are some of the cuddle quilts that some of our very busy quilters have made recently for the Gin Gin Lions Club. These quilts are given to sick children in our area to help make their hospital visits a little easier.

Our Girls Weekend

Well, what a weekend we had. We had heaps of fun as well as raising lots of money for the Lions Medical Research Foundation. Barb is our Sewing Champion! She won the sew off, finally competing with good friend Lyn. As you can see there was some foul play resulting in Barb getting back to the table first with her finished block. Thank goodness Lyn is such a good sport. A huge thank you must go to everyone who helped make our weekend a success and a special thank you to those who traveled from Bundaberg, Biloela, and Howard.

More from Di.

Di’s nephew was only 7 months old when he got this quilt for Christmas 2009. Di found the material over a few random shopping trips and thought they were cute. She didn’t know then what she’d use them for, but knew immediately what they were for when her nephew was born in May. Di’s sister loves it and assures her that it will be used and well loved.

Christmas Gifts Made by Elfi

Elfi originally started this one for her friend in Florida and then with the pink in it thought it was too "girlish" for a lady of advanced years.... (Elfi's words) Her 3 year old grand-daughter happened to see it and grabbed it and wouldn't let it go, as they do. So it ended up being a very loved Christmas gift for her.

Elfi made this one for a Christmas present for her 6 year old grand-son after he admired the panel at Spotlight and mentioned he would like to have a quilt with that picture.

Cutout Magic by Pene

Di's Creations

Di made this pretty pink quilt for her 12 year old cousin. She loves anything to do with horses and pink. Di also added a couple of Betty Boop squares as a personal joke (she pities Di’s addiction!), but has since learned that her “addiction” has rubbed off on her cousin and she now likes Betty Boop as well, so that one worked out quite well. It was her Christmas present for 2009. Hope she likes it!

This was Di’s 1st completed quilt. She also has a couple of others “on the go” and plans for more. The problem is finding the time to do them all!!

This one was for Di’s 14 year old cousin. He enjoys reading science fantasy books, particularly ones about dragons. Di figured black and red were good colours for a boy. The only trouble she had was getting enough dragon material, as it wasn’t the “in” thing when she started this quilt. This was his Christmas present for 2009 and I hope he loves it as much we do!

The quilt with the big R was a 2009 Christmas present for Di’s 9 year old cousin Rebecca (the 3 of them are siblings). She thought of about 8 different designs before she settled on this one. She found it difficult to match patterns with orange – her favourite colour. “It’s not an easy colour to work with and hopefully one I’ll never have to again. I spent the least amount of time on this one as I was running out of days until Christmas!” It’s amazing how fast you can finish a quilt when you have a rapidly approaching deadline!

Di loves the big R and Rebecca thinks it’s awesome! A quilt made just for her.

One of our many meal times.

Well, what a weekend we had! We gathered at the Boolbbonda Memorial Hall at 8.30am on Saturday with the intent to have fun, and fun we had! We ate, sewed, talked, ate, laughed, talked, cried, ate, and sewed some more. We were honored to have Trevor and Ivey from Van Cotten’s of Howard bring their shop to us. We had fabric and thread at our finger tips to start a new project as we felt the urge. We were entertained by the antics of our good friend Barb who throw lollies at everyone who laughed at her. We were spoiled with great food and plenty of it. We would just finish one meal and we would be called for another! Pene did a great job keeping the food coming. Trevor was great at washing up when he wasn’t cutting fabric for us. Then Sunday breakfast came with a surprise when our cook showed up in a very pink frilly apron. Poor Julie just couldn’t cope with that and nearly lost control of herself! But the bacon, eggs and sausages were worth it.
Thank you to everyone who came to visit us over the weekend. Weather you came to shop, talk, cook, wash up or just sticky beak, you all helped make our weekend the success that it was. We will be doing it all again next March. If you want a fabulous weekend, do yourself a favour and book in with Pene now.
